Day 4: Medical Clinic Day 2 - Smooth Sailing

As we carried out day 2 of our medical clinics, we continued with the same services as we had the previous day. For this day, we only had one location in Mo Cay, Ben Tre province. We had clinic located at the local elementary school. However, the bus was not able to make it on the rural paths. Instead, we had to unload the dental and medical supplies onto a pick-up truck and walk the rest of the way to the school. Luckily, each 7G goer got a ride by the local villagers by getting a ride on their motorcycles and pick-up truck! With the wind in our hair, we were able to make our way to clinic faster than we would have on foot. What should have been a 30-minute walk (or more) on the rural path took only 10 minutes on motorcycle or truck.
The road was too narrow for the bus, so instead, smaller vehicles had to be used.

The 7G team comes in style!
Upon arrival, the 7G team have to get ready for the long day ahead.
Upon arrival at the local elementary school, the 7G goers split up into their individual tasks and went to work. Given the situation at hand, the team had to make the best of the situation. For instance, for EKG and Ultrasound, we had to use the student's tables as patient beds. In addition, the weather included random rain floods. Luckily, there was ceiling for the patients to walk under and follow. The medical and dental teams went to their stations and got ready for the clinic day. The clinic started at 8am as before, and the patients had to wait in line since 4am. The day went by quickly, as we had a new set of patients to help. Even with all of the different faces, we still had the same cause: to provide health care to the local community where health care is scarce.

The dental team works with the university dental students.
By both 7G goers and university working together, it demonstrates the possibility of global partnership.
The line for the clinic wraps around the corner of the building.
Jason holds the hand of a patient, guiding her to the next station.
Just some of the people that we helped during clinic.
Natalie and Kieu work along side with the university students for triage.
Nick and the university student come together to make sure pharmacy runs smoothly.
As part of crowd control, Kelly helps an elderly patient to her next station.
Helping down a patient down three steps, Ben (UCI) is part of crowd control, ensuring that the flow of patients runs smoothly.
Rosalie and Alisha take the glucose and cholesterol levels of the patient.
Amy, Ben (UCLA), and Katrina talk with the locals, smiling about their day so far.
Spencer, Jessica, and Nick work together to make sure that patients receive the medicine that they need in pharmacy.
No seat was left open. It was quite crowded this day.
Once the clinic calmed down, some of the 7G goers were able to participate with the university students in dancing in the rain. After all of their hard work, they definitely deserved it. It gave them a chance to have fun once they have worked for it. It facilitated bonding between the 7G team and the university students, coming together in times of both need and fun.
Kelly and Christina dance in the rain after a long day of crowd control.
M.E.M.O. cheer!
YAY M.E.M.O.!!!!
Even after the a long day of clinic and sudden rain, the 7G team cannot be stopped.
Phoebe and Amanda dance with the university students. Look at those dance moves!

Julian, Ben (UCLA), Clara, Ngan, and Ben (UCI) join in the fun!
The university students show off their dance moves! They definitely know how to dance.
Oppa Gangnam Style!
Katrina, Mai Anh, and Kevin with the university dentists and dental students!
With all of the university dentists and dental students, Dean is a lucky man.
At the end of the day, we ended up helping over 400 people! From the number of people we helped on day 1, we had a total of over 1000 people over the course of the two days!!! We packed up all of the supplies on the pick-up trucks. In addition, the 7G team got a chance to ride back to the bus not on motorcycles but now on the pick-up trucks! All 7G goers were safe and enjoyed the time while on the vehicle. Seeing the rural village area for its scenery and dodging tree branches here and there, the 7G goers definitely had a blast!
Time to go back on the bus!!!
This ended day 2 of clinic. It was now time for the 7G team to rest before the next stop: the scholarship program.
