Day 8: Hospital Highlight - Outpatient Services

Day 3 of the hospital rotations consisted of the outpatient services. For this tour of the hospital, we were able to see the technical aspects of the machinery and imagining processes of the medical center. First, we made our way to the imaging department, where we learned about MRI, x-ray, and CT imaging. In order for a procedure to be done, it was necessary for these images to be captured and used by doctors in order to diagnose the problem.

The patient undergoes a CT scan.
Once the imaging is done, then the imaging analyst can then use the image to determine the diagnosis of the patient.
The hospital staff makes sure everything is safe during an MRI scan.
We made our way from the old part of the hospital to the new part, crossing the corridor and seeing the amount of patients who needed specific services. The hallways were crowded with patients who needed services done; however, with the large amount of people and not enough machines, crowdedness was the norm.

At the new part of the hospital, the machines were more advanced in terms of their services.

The emergency room.
We mad our visit to the new part of the hospital.
In contrast between old and new hospital, the new hospital was truly more modernized, as I felt that it was similar to any UC hospital in the United States. As I volunteer at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, I found that the new part of the University Medical Center was similar to the UCLA in its set-up and design. We visited the new patient rooms, which only had one or two patients in the room and no more. This was different from the old part of the hospital when we saw five patients in one room. This demonstrates the progress of medicine in terms of its ability to modernize and grow according to the demands of the patients.
On the tenth floor, there is a patio for patients to visit when they need fresh air. The view is quite beautiful.

The 7G goers with the hospital staff who presented us the outpatient department. We are truly grateful to get a tour of this new hospital and see how the medical center is evolving.
The hallways of the new part of the hospital.
This is the old part of the hospital. In a change to less crowded hallways, the new part of the hospital does not have people in the hallway.
All in all, the 7G goers were able to see the other side of medicine in how the medical center accommodates for its patients and is evolving in its change toward modern medicine. Even though they have a long way to go before they reach the level of the medical centers in the United States, they are mare making the right step in right direction. We will just have to wait and see the University Medical Center will change in weeks, months, and years to come.
